Booked a trip before Covid, got canceled 3 times. Finally asked for a refund. At first was told no, then I HAD to explain to them that their terms, when I booked the trip, would have allowed for a full return. What a great, ethical company! Then after being allowed a lawful refund, they didn't make any moves on it for MONTHS. Until, once again I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING.
Finally got a part of my return back. Got 369 dollars when I am being owed 1,396 USD. They just keep trying to cheat me and hope I don't notice anything. Listen, I ended up traveling 8 months by myself in South America and not only did I save much more money but it was done on my own terms. I suggest everyone take the plunge and go without a tour. Especially one that you aren't guaranteed anything great with :

I had an amazing first trip with them pre-COVID. I was so excited to take another trip with them, that I did so as soon as vaccines were being issued. Unfortunately, they decided to "postpone" the trip and instead of issuing a refund, they gave me future credit. At this point, I don't think I will ever take another trip with them.

CAREFUL OF THIS COMPANY: their moto is coronavirus is your problem not theirs. Wont give refunds in any way even if you age out of the program before you can use the travel credit (the only thing the will give you) they just give your credit to a 'sister company'. One rep literally recommended i try to sell me credit on craigslist what a joke.

Don't waste your money. Saved and spent $4290 on the trip of a lifetime. Contiki cancelled due to covid and changed their policy in the midst of a pandemic to refusing refunds, instead offering a travel credit. Unfortunately, my travel partner and I lost our jobs during covid. I had to find two new jobs to support myself, which doesn't allow the flexibility to travel, and the person I was traveling with has started graduate school and a new job and won't be able to use their travel credit either.
So now we're out thousands of dollars and not even able to use their service. Not to mention their policy ensured a refund would be provided during an epidemic -- if we cancel or change your holiday booking terms 3.4. I'm a registered travel agent and will spread the word about how unethical Contiki is with the thousands of users in our community. By far the most unreasonable supplier I've communicated with.

DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THIS COMPANY! I booked a trip with Contiki for May 2020. Due to COVID-19, the trip was cancelled. I contacted Contiki and was told I could receive a refund. After a couple of weeks, I called Contiki back to check on the status of the refund and they stated I would only be able to receive credits because their policy changed. I rebooked the trip for October 2020 and the trip has been cancelled again. I'm no longer able to travel and Contiki will not give me a refund. Now, I am $2,200 out of pocket.
This company cares more about the company than the personal lives of their customers. They are liars and have no compassion. I WILL NEVER USE THIS TRAVEL COMPANY AGAIN. I'm currently working the with the Better Business Bureau regarding this complaint and I'm also in the process of hiring a lawyer.

As it was said, Contiki made changes to their customer policy to keep everyone's money during this time of uncertainty. Please do not apologize to us, stick to your word and offer refunds to those who planned a trip before the pandemic hit. I have already called Contiki 3 times and as it was previously said, they will only offer vouchers/ future credit.
I will enter dental school this fall which will cost me over $300,000+. I booked this trip since this would have been my first trip to Europe and wanted to do it before I left to school. My parents are construction workers so I have to foot the school bill for the rest of my career after school. The ~$4000 I spent can help pay off a portion of living costs which I desperately need once I'm at school.
Do not book Contiki unless you want a "uncertainty" to hit and have them keep your money and a nicely written reply saying you are not getting your money back. That money I spent on Contiki is a year's worth of groceries. Please offer us a refund Contiki, do what's right. If you care about what is happening, you should understand people that booked their trip before everything shut down need their money back. Honor your terms and service from before it was changed during the pandemic.

Do not USE or TRUST. Had a two week trip to Colombia cancelled in March due to COVID19. Asked to receive a full refund and they stated their policy did not cover pandemics. Spoke with a representative who spoke to a "manager" who came back to me and said there was nothing they could do. They are keeping every cent of your money during a pandemic. That money is desperately needed by some and Contiki could care less. Contiki was recommended to me by a friend last year who enjoyed their African safari, however after this I will NEVER use contiki again or recommend to anyone due to such unethical policy and behavior.

A few years ago I was searching for a reputable international youth travel program, and through Google I discovered Contiki. My first trip was to Australia for the Beaches and Reefs. I had an amazing time. I immediately booked my next trip to Machu Picchu (Ultimate Inca Trail). What an experience! Seeing the pyramids in Eqypt was always on my bucket list so I traveled there next.
My latest trip was the best yet - European Discovery, for my birthday. Wow, exceeded my expectations. Had an amazing time. Great people, lots of fun. So, 4 trips down, and I have 2 more planned into 2020. I really love Contiki. They make traveling carefree, fun and easy. I would recommend to everyone.

Spent $2700 on a trip to Europe set to depart in July, due to COVID the trip got suspended. Conveniently they changed their refund policy to benefit them, after calling day after day and talking with supervisors who told me a manager would call me back, I never heard anything. Refused to refund me. I am a broke college student who lost their job due to covid and need the money desperately and they couldn't care less. Unethical company. And please don't comment some BS on this post about how if I'm upset I am more than welcome to contact customer support.

This is my second post as I am still receiving terrible customer service from Contiki as they keep refusing to give me a refund. The managers are repeatedly telling me I can only have a credit. I have gotten a lawyer and am pursuing legal actions as it seems this is the only way Contiki will take me seriously. It's very sad I have to take the legal route as I didn't want to, but Contiki has not tried to help their customers at all.

NO REFUNDS!.I was excited to go on a trip with Contiki later this month to Italy. That trip was understandably cancelled by Contiki due to the current situation with COVID-19. However, they refuse to give me a refund and are only offering a trip credit. I was told that they recently changed their policy to not allow refunds. After I posted on their Instagram, someone DM'd me saying that I would be contacted by a local representative.
That was more than two weeks ago and I have not heard from anyone. I called their main line today and was treated poorly, customer service refused to let me speak with anyone higher up and kept repeating the same line about only being able to offer trip credits. How is this ethical with what is going on in the world today? I would have considered traveling with them in the future if they offered me the option of a refund. However, due to their incredibly poor customer service, I not only would not travel with them, but would not recommend this agency to anyone else!

Contiki is only offering me a voucher for my "suspended" trip. A suspension is a change. I am requesting a refund. From 3.4 of Europe 2020 terms and conditions: "3.4 If the change or cancelation is due to force majeure (i.e. circumstances like political unrest, war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, closure of airports or ports, industrial disputes, terrorist activity, natural and nuclear disasters, fire, epidemic health risk, Acts of God, adverse weather conditions or other similar events beyond Contiki's control) we will give a full refund of any monies paid to us less reasonable expenses incurred by us in respect to your booking."

MY daughter just completed: Canada and the Rockies plus calgary stampede departing 6th july. She was charged twice for her her extra activities. She was told that the money would be refunded with 5 to 7 days. It has now been 2 weeks. Where is your duty of care? She has had very limited funds for her on going trip which I have had to fund. I am looking to a resolution of this issue in the next 48 hours or I will be seeking legal advice and compensation. You have ruined the 2nd half of her holiday. I have tried numerous times to call your office just to be disconnected.

I took a trip to china with this organization and my tour leader was Yelitza Acevedo Perez aka Jelly. I went on their china adventure tour. DO NOT TRAVEL WITH COMPANY TO CHINA! It was horrible the tour guide was so unprofessional and made it super uncomfortable for multiple people. I was kept up multiple nights in a row and went to her to find a solution.
Instead of dealing with it privately she told everyone in the group and told people I was giving her a hard time. I had to hear this from members of my group before I left and after the trip. You were a bully and you really made me feel awful. I also thought it was unbelievable that she refused to add me to the Facebook page that everyone was part of afterwards so I couldn't connect with anyone.
I was originally part of it and then was taken off. She did not allow me to get any of the group pictures and to this day refuses the respond to my text to add me. I paid for a trip and an experience that I wasn't fully able to partake in because of this leader. YELITZA treated me like shit, made me feel so bad about myself and turned the group against me.
This was the most unprofessional tour leader I have ever traveled with. I went to thailand with them and thankfully didn't have the same problem. I paid a lot for this trip and lost out on a great experience because they have immature leaders running their trips. I want to make sure others understand how unprofessional you are I would never treat my customers with such disrespect. I'm disgusted with her behavior and actions.
You are DISGUSTING! Omg one more thing. she made me send her a photo of my feedback as well and then got scared and didn't respond. I shouldn't of had to let you see my feedback. The entire thing was weird like she knew she was going to be called out and got scared. I would never be this mean but I understand respect and either they don't know how bad this leader us or they do and do not care. Get me my photos and don't alienate someone from an entire group. Your awful.

Okay seriously just let Nike say it all for you JUST DO IT! I did the European Discovery tour and it was fabulous. There are maybe two hotels out of all of them that were a little dated but you only stay one night in them. Let's be honest who wants to sit around in a hotel anyways? The free time add ons were well worth the money. I honestly don't think I could have done and seen everything I did for the price and under the time frame that Contiki did. Well done!

I've traveled on 4 Contiki trips so far (3 in Europe and 1 to Peru). It's hard to pick my favorite as they were all fantastic, but I fell in love with Peru so I think I'm biased towards the Ultimate Inca. The trip was 8-days with 4 of the nights spent hiking and camping along the Inca Trail. Our team was extremely professional and our trip manager, Rolando, was the best!

I've taken two Contiki trips now and it's my favorite way to travel! I'll be super sad when I age out in a few years. I had a really good experience with the customer service from everyone I spoke with on the phone as well as my trip managers (seriously, shout out to mia and mikael, you are amazing). Contiki really helped me a lot in making time for everything I actually wanted to see and I have never been less stressed on a vacation because I didn't have to do anything but pack my bags. If you want an amazing trip I highly recommend Canada and the Rockies or Adriatic Unearthed. I want to go back right now :(

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I booked the European Discovery Tour this past October and upon arriving in London (the start location of the tour) I got seriously ill with the stomach flu. The way my trip manager, Adam Saragozza, handled this situation was unprofessional and just plain wrong. After already having attended the kickstart meeting the day before the tour left I asked Adam for a phone number to contact him in case of an emergency.
He refused to give me any way of contacting him. I had to cancel my tour the morning that the tour was departing because I was so sick. Since I had no way of contacting him, I had to call one of the other girls on the trip (thank God I got her number) to let Adam know when they meet at the bus (which was meeting at the other contiki hotel, not the one I was staying at) that I couldn't make the tour and to have him give me a call.
He not only refused to call me to check on my wellbeing or help me with the next steps of getting home, but my tour mate even offered to call me on her phone so he could talk to me through her and he still refused! I was left stranded in London with no resources (the contiki basement wasn't open for several more hours and I had no one to call back home because nothing was open due to the time difference) or any help from anyone from Contiki, especially my trip manager.
I was so sick I had to ask guest services at my hotel for a doctor to come and see me in my room, again without any help from Contiki. Being stuck in a foreign country alone, (this was my first solo trip) while being sick is the worst possible thing to experience and Contiki made it 10x worse! I was told when I booked the tour that the Trip Manager is like the mom of the group and is supposed to keep everyone safe but clearly this is not true.
I ended up having to stay another night in London before I could go home because I had no where to go. Even after contacting my travel agent to help me book a flight a home, she told me Contiki promised they would call me to check on my wellbeing but they never did. I have filed a complaint with the company about my trip manager, Adam, over a month ago and they have yet to respond. Long story short, don't use this company they have no concern for your wellbeing and could care less if they leave you stranded in a foreign country.

Going to Thailand had always been a dream of mine. I came across Contiki during an online search. The reviews seemed decent and I liked the fact that there was a designated tour guide and group of other young people. I decided to do the northern highlights trip. The people I met were amazing, however, the tour guide Lana might be one of the worst humans I have ever come across.
She was very obnoxious, not helpful and was only nice to the guys on the trip. She was throwing herself at people that were even in relationships. Very unprofessional and very inappropriate behavior. I recommend re-evaluating this "tour guide" as her jealous/desperate behavior (especially towards girls) made a handful of us women uncomfortable. I will not use this website again as the tour guide is supposed to heighten the experience, not put a damper on it. Thailand itself, however, 5 stars.

Approaching the end of my sophomore year of college, I decided that I wanted to travel. I found out about Contiki through a friend and via YouTube videos so I decided to book with them for the month of May when my semester finished. I booked my trip months in advanced and was told to wait until September to purchase plane tickets. September came around and I purchased my $800 plane tickets.
Here I am so excited to travel to Europe for the first time. Then, my trip got cancelled. The cancellation happened in January and I thought "oh, I'll just get refunds and go next year." Foolish me. My plane tickets were non-refundable and non-transferable. I emailed Contiki to ask for help and I never got a response from them. I'm angry, upset and resentful now that it's May, when my trip was supposed to be, and I'm not in Europe.
I was robbed of $800 due to Contiki not staying true to the safe purchase date in September. Needless to say, I won't be booking my first trip to Europe with Contiki, nor will I ever be booking any trip with Contiki. Worst travel company ever.

Worth the read! My best friend highly recommended Contiki after doing a coach tour through Italy last year. So on our upcoming two week Croatia trip we booked an 8 day Contiki Sailing tour. Throughout the booking process we got misinformation regarding travel insurance. The paperwork said it was mandatory while every representative we spoke to on the phone said it was suggested but not required.
When we arrived they definitely said it was required. The itinerary and what excursions/tours were included or not was extremely vague and there was absolutely ZERO information about the "sail boat" aside from the "A" class description and an air-conditioned "galley" (common area). When we got to the port in Dubrovnik we saw a beautiful yacht with the Contiki banner flying above and we we're really hoping that was our boat but we didn't see the tour representatives.
So we walked around, found where to check in and we're horrified to find our "sail boat" looked more like a jungle boat. We got on board checked in and found our room to be absolutely tiny. But decided we wouldn't be in it much so we would make do. We we're there in August as they were experiencing a heat wave, think 100 degrees Fahrenheit with Florida humidity.
There was ONLY a fan in our room meaning good luck sleeping! And NO air conditioning anywhere on the boat accessible to us. Every day we barely made port by 3pm missing most of the excursions you could do on any of the islands. We had soup for many of the lunches that were provided while stuffed in a small hot room with everyone else where we were required to cover up (no bathing suits).
Everyone on the boat caught tonsillitis/strep throat and we're all coughing. The other boat we we're travelling with every single person caught some sort of flu which spread to our boat and one by one people started getting it. Think vomiting, and diarrhea in a bathroom that you can literally sit on the toilet and shower and shave at the same time, on a boat that's rocking, exhausted from lack of sleep all in temperatures hot enough to give you heat stroke for days on end without any relief, such as air-conditioning.
Because of the Flu type symptoms going around we ended up leaving the tour two days early because I also had hives and heat rash and we couldn't bear being any more sick on top of it all. But worst of all we found out that Contiki booked this boat through a company called Katarina lines which did the exact same trip on the beautiful yacht boat for the same price we paid.
When we told our tour guide Roz that we would be getting off early she was extremely rude and unprofessional. She even made us wait hours in order to pay our tab and get our passports. The crew of the boat we're hired by yet another company but they we're absolutely wonderful. Really the only thing that made the trip tolerable. Otherwise the 6 day's we spent touring with Contiki we're the absolute worst days or our two week Croatian adventure. I'd suggest Airbnb and booking boat tours to the islands. I will NEVER travel with Contiki again and will tell everyone I know the same.

I signed up for the European Discovery tour, sadly only reading the reviews on the site. I wanted a budget tour of Europe. When I signed up I bought a cancel for any reason insurance package through Contiki. I didn't read the package before hand but was assured by a Contiki phone rep that it really was cancel for any reason. I booked the trip and later started looking at other reviews sites to try to decide which extras I wanted to go on.
I was shocked to find out the number of reviews indicating this was a tour dedicated to drinking, hooking up and partying. This is not really my scene. I called to cancel but my reasoning was not acceptable for money back and my cancel for any reason insurance only entitled me to a credit for future trips through the company. I'm out my initial deposit on both the trip and the airfare. This is a dishonest company avoid them!

I'm out my initial deposit on both the trip and the airfare. This is a dishonest company avoid them!

I took the Contiki tour Amsterdam to Barcelona for 11 days July of last year and it was a life changing experience! Contiki is great especially if you're traveling by yourself because you'll instantly have 50+ friends. I didn't read too many reviews before I went on my tour so I was in shock by how many Aussies there were. There were a total of 5 Americans including myself and 4 Canadians.
My tour guide, Mike was awesome. He prefaces all the places we're going to and gives us accurate and excellent tips on what we can do and what to avoid. Be prepared to plan you own day itinerary because Contiki will take you to all the cities and help you book the travel accommodations with some optional excursions but it's up to you to do whatever you want once you're in the city. Luckily, I already came prepared with my entire list of to-do's so I was able to do my own thing in the daytime and then hang out with the Contiki crew at night.
When you're going have an open mindset, understand you'll be hanging around mostly 18-early 20 year olds, and PREPARE YOUR LIVER for some seriously hard partying every single night. Going on this trip has definitely allowed me to be more independent but also helped me get more out of my comfort zone by providing me a community of people I can socialize with. I'm definitely looking forward to traveling with Contiki again in the future! #noregrets
