By approach and delivery, AHA is a unique educational phenomenon. We have magnificent courses that have enriched the lives of thousands over thirty years. AHA's courses are essentially about the wonders of Italian art. However, tutors inevitably draw connections between art, philosophy, literature or history, so, effectively, we teach Civilisation.
This is the unexpected value of AHA. It is only possible because tutorials are on site, in small groups where discussion is encouraged. Hence, we have no conventional lectures, preferring instead to put the student or client first.

The tutors were all exceptional, so knowledgeable and enthusiastic making the course accessible but also fun when you got to relax with them in the evenings. It was amazing how much more you got to see by travelling Italy with AHA, a personal highlight was the private tour of San Marco in Venice, a once in a lifetime opportunity which I never would have been able to do without the course.
The Autumn European Semester Course was originally conceived for American students, but it is open to all. It is an amazing leap into European culture. Students come from every academic background which brings an essential mix to the atmosphere of the course. Chemists, historians, linguists all have something to offer and much to learn.
So, to study art, you should see it at first hand, with only a few others, and with an engaging expert. We have thought about how to make the vast scope of history digestible, moving and useful. We want your experience of Italy and life to be as vivid as possible. So we watch the football, love the food and wine, enjoy the countryside and essentially absorb all that is best in this wonderful country. It is a huge educational experience. Students need to be able to hear and join in discussions. Tutors need to be approachable, engaging and fun.
Recently, our judges conferred to decide the winner of the Art History Abroad Trenchard Cox Scholarship 2021. WELL DONE to all of the 96 entries! We were hugely impressed by the wide range of styles adopted and artefacts chosen. Congratulations to our winner Ella Crowder from AC Davis High School, USA who has won a place on our 2-week Summer Course in Italy worth 4,300!
